About The MCAT
The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is a computer-based standardized examination for prospective medical students in the United States, Australia, Canada, and Caribbean Islands. Administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), it is designed to assess critical thinking, problem solving skills, written analysis and knowledge of scientific concepts and principles. The MCAT exam consists of four sections: Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems; Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems; Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior; Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills.

What is a good MCAT score?
The MCAT total score ranges from 472 - 528 (each of the four sections is scaled from 118 - 132). The average MCAT score in 2018 is 505, and the average MCAT score of those admitted to medical school is 511. The average MCAT score of students entering both Johns Hopkins and Stanford Medical School in 2018, is 519. Students attending medical school at Columbia, Northwestern, UPenn, Vanderbilt and the University of Chicago had an MCAT average of 520. The average at NYU, Yale and Washington University in Saint Louis was one point higher at 521. Hopefully this gives you a general idea of where your score needs to be. While MCAT scores are an extremely important part of admissions decisions, they are not the only part. GPA, letters of recommendations, extra-curricular activities, etc also come into play. Upcoming MCAT Test Dates & Registration
The MCAT is typically offered in January, March, April, May, June, July, August and September. There are multiple test dates each month, and these vary from year to year. According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, you may take the MCAT exam up to 3 times in a single testing year, 4 times during a two consecutive-year period and 7 times in a lifetime.
